A Biography of Imam Hassan Askary A.S.
Imam Askari was the eleventh Imam of the Ahlul-bayt. He succeeded his father Imam Ali Al Hadi. He was born on 8th R/Thani 232 A.H.
He lived a very humble life despite his esteemed scientific and moral position. He was the best among all the people of his time in terms of merits, dignity, worship and good manners. He was extremely great, wise and benevolent.
He was respected by all people due to his excellent morals. He became very important in the mind of everyone and was well admired by both his friends and enemies.
The then Abbasid ruler detained Imam Askari out of cruelty in order to restrict his contact with his Shi'a (followers). There, Imam continued worshipping Allah in the day and night. He treated everyone in the prison with respect and kindness. It was reported that some people (among his enemies) were sent to the prison in order to be harsh on the Imam as much as they could, but later after meeting Imam, they learned about his greatness, praising and admiring him and finally turned as his companions.
Upon seeing that, Al-Mutamid, the Abbasid Khaliph finally ordered a poison to be put in Imam's food which the Imam ate and died on 8th R/Auwal 260 A.H. He was buried in Samarrah, Iraq.
